Recap Keynote Session 1

Chief Executive Carrie Lam said she addressed at the sixth AFHC 7 years ago and was pleased to return to speak in her capacity as the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, highlighting the importance she has attached to this international gathering.

Following the opening ceremony, Mrs Carrie Lam delivered address in Keynote Session I. By drawing an analogy between the Northern Metropolis unveiled in her recent policy address and a healthy city, she reiterated that the goal of planning the new hub is to develop a salubrious and healthy city. The HKSAR government would try to ensure that the new metropolis is self-contained providing more spacious homes and better public transportation, so that the residents will involve less travelling time to go to work and enjoy more quality sleep. She added that spending time with families and adequate sleep would also be considered in planning Northern Metropolis. Several government branches will be moved to the Northern Hub to reduce the time from traffic jam.

In the same keynote session, Dr. Takeshi Kasai, Regional Director of Regional Office for Western Pacific, WHO spoke online on “For the Future: towards healthiest and safest region beyond COVID-19”. He suggested the roles of cities in their COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts.
