Professor DU Xiang-wan, Deputy Director of National Energy Advisory Expert Committee, China delivered his keynote address for the topic “SDG Sustainable Cities and Climate Action Beyond COVID-19”.

Professor DU explained the “dual carbon” goals that China pledges are carbon peaking in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060. The goals are to boost energy conservation and efficiency and to build a new energy-dominated power system in place of fossil fuels. He highlighted idea innovation such as flourishing innovation in energy technology, appropriate policy guidance and market driving force would lead to achieve the “dual carbon” goals, and concluded by saying the “dual carbon” goals were the proposition of the times and a test of global engagement, evolving from industrial civilization to ecological civilization, and a test of human civilization.
